Frequently
Asked Questions
Q: What exactly is reiki and how does it work?
A:
Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) literally means 'universal life energy' in Japanese
and is a system of Enlightenment and a Hands on Healing art developed in the early
1900's by Mikao Usui in Japan. It is an art that is passed from Master to student
and is based on the belief that, by channeling spiritual energy through the practitioner,
the spirit is healed, and the spirit, in turn, heals the physical. Many patients
report a feeling of warmth when the Reiki energy is directed in their bodies.
Q:
Can treatments be done long distance?
A:
Reiki Energy is not subject to space and time. For those unable to visit our clinic,
Teresa can direct her healings over long distance with amazing results. In addition,
treatments can even be directed to a specific individual (or animal) whose whereabouts
are unknown (such as a lost pet or a runaway).
Q:
Can anyone become a reiki healer?
A:
As a Reiki Mistress, Teresa can perform Reiki Attunements making you a Reiki Practitioner.
According to
Astarius Reiki-Om,
“To become a Reiki Healer is to learn to direct the flow of Universal Life Energy.
There are millions of people around the world who have been trained in the art
of Reiki Healing. To become a Reiki Healer is to become a wave carried by the
tide of an Ocean of Healers.”
Treatments
A
Reiki treatment is in essence the “laying on of hands,” also known as therapeutic
touch, an ancient practice common to many spiritual traditions. Typically, during
a Reiki treatment, the client lies down (fully clothed) on a padded treatment
table. Energy is transferred to the client through the hands of the practitioner
in a series of standardized positions where the hands are placed.
Treatments
begin with the client’s head, then covers the abdomen from below the ribs to the
lower belly. The client turns over, and the practitioner then works progressively
from the top of the back to the tailbone. In each position, the hands are merely
rested on the client for 3 to 5 minutes. A full treatment usually takes about
an hour.
Long
Distance Treatments
Reiki distance
treatments are an advanced technique for sending Reiki energy to a distant time
or location. While Reiki Energy may be hard to understand, there is considerable
evidence that it is able to travel free of time or distance to deliver healing.
Most Reiki practitioners use this practice similar to a telephone… they know it
works and do not necessarily have a clue as to the fundamental mechanisms.
Teaching
Reiki Masters “attune” students to the energy channels and ensure that energy
passed through will not be from the student's own reserves. There are three levels
of “Attunement”:
First Degree
First
Degree Students learn how to do self-treatment and to give hands-on treatment
to others. Many people with chronic health issues take this training to help with
their own personal healing. This level generally requires one day of training,
then students continue to work with their Teaching Reiki Master for a few months
to refine their skills and technique.
Second
Degree
Second Degree Reiki students learn
three special symbols and how to use these symbols to better focus and increase
the amounts of Reiki energy transferred. In addition students learn how to give
"distance" treatments for individuals, groups, and circumstances. Second level
training generally requires an eight hour class plus significant homework.
Master
Level
Traditional Teaching Reiki Master
training is primarily intended for people who have made Reiki their life's work.
Depending upon the individual, Reiki Master level training is usually only given
after a student has been practicing Second Degree skills for at least two years.
Master level training generally requires a 2- day class. Each new Reiki Master
is strongly encouraged to heal others and themselves helping each to improve their
own physical, spiritual, and mental health.
